Regional University Industry Collaboration Program

The key objective of this program is to increase commercialisation of research in Queensland’s regions.

Regional universities have limited access to investors and networks compared to universities based in major centres. This has contributed to less industry engagement and lower rates of commercialisation.

The Regional University Industry Collaboration Program will help regional universities and local industry in overcoming these barriers.

The program will be delivered by the CSIRO SME Connect team on behalf of the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation. They will utilise a team of regional research facilitators with access to three complementary program components to aid identification, facilitation, negotiation and brokering services to both universities and businesses.

The facilitators will draw upon three key tools to set up and progress research collaborations within regions, leading to a sustainable pathway for future university-industry collaborations.

  • Tool 1 – Masterclasses: for both university and business stakeholders to improve knowledge and understanding of research commercialisation, leading to more successful collaborations.
  • Tool 2 – Regional Research/Industry Events: to showcase and improve visibility of capabilities to potential collaborators across universities, industry and government. These events will provide networking opportunities to bring people together to discuss problems, capabilities, resources, and co-design solutions that lead to research collaborations and strategies for translation.
  • Tool 3 – Vouchers: a set of collaboration vouchers worth up to $50,000 each (co-investment required) to fund research activities that involve university-industry collaboration.

Regional universities included in the program are James Cook University, Central Queensland University, University of the Sunshine Coast, and the University of Southern Queensland.

Information regarding the availability of these tools will be published here once confirmed.
