The Quantum 2032 Challenge will fund projects that have the potential to showcase how Queensland's quantum technologies can provide innovative solutions and enhancements for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Projects relating specifically to the 2032 Paralympic Games are strongly encouraged.

The key objectives of the Quantum 2032 Challenge are to:

  • accelerate the development of quantum-based innovation in sportstech and related domains
  • build collaboration between Queensland’s quantum research sector and industry
  • showcase Queensland's quantum technology expertise on the global stage during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games
  • contribute to the legacy of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Investment is targeted at Queensland-based organisations with proposed projects addressing challenges linked to delivery of, or Australia’s athletes’ participation in, the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games using quantum technologies.

  • Applications for the Quantum 2032 Challenge have closed. It is anticipated that applicants will be informed of the outcome of their applications in September 2024.
  • Quantum 2032 Challenge projects will demonstrate quantum technologies that can provide innovative solutions and enhancements related to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It also encourages collaboration among quantum scientists, sports industry experts and partners.
  • Proposals may seek funding up to $1 million and must define a project in Queensland which seeks to address challenges related to delivery of, or Australian athletes’ participation in, the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, through the application of quantum technologies, specifically quantum computing, quantum sensing or quantum communications.

Eligibility

The Applicant Organisation must be:

  • a Queensland-based agency that conducts research as part of its core activities, including some universities, government agencies, not-for-profit organisations, and companies
  • registered for GST and have an Australian Business Number.
