Queensland’s advanced manufacturing, advanced materials and biomanufacturing industry

Queensland has more than 16,000 manufacturing firms most of which are small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs), ideally positioned to meet the growing demand for customised products. These diverse SMEs account for the third-largest share of Queensland’s business expenditure on research and development and a majority of these are well progressed in their transition to advanced manufacturing.

Queensland has more than 70 institutes, facilities, precincts, laboratories and other organisations currently involved in advanced manufacturing, advanced material development and biomanufacturing research which, along with a supportive policy environment, has helped the industry become increasingly knowledge-intensive.

This visualisation shows the relationships between the state’s leading research centres and innovation hubs and how they support this emerging industry.
